Two fatal accidents this past Friday. One involved a Paso Robles man who crashed his car near Highway 101 and Higuera. He was identified as 19-year-old Kyle Sheffield. The CHP says Sheffield was driving southbound on Higuera Street and was slowing for the curve near the northbound on-ramp for Highway 101. He then accelerated and hit a tree and fence and went 300 yards down a hill. The CHP said Sheffield may have had a seizure.
The other fatal involved an Amtrak bus driver who suffered a heart attack while driving northbound on the Santa Maria bridge. Two passengers were able to move the unidentified driver and bring the bus to a halt after it had scraped the center divider and guardrail. The driver from Los Osos was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened about 7:10 Friday morning. The bus was on its way from Santa Maria to Hanford.
