A state Assembly panel will be conducting an informal hearing concerning offshore oil and gas fracking along the California coast. The hearing will take place tomorrow in Santa Barbara involving the Assembly Select Committee on Coastal Protection.
Assemblyman Das Williams says offshore oil fracking has been taking place without the public knowing about it. Fracking is formally known as hydraulic fracturing and it is the process of drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas inside. The event will include a discussion of current oversight and regulations in California and federal waters.
