Standoff in SLO Ends Peacefully

A man barricaded himself in a San Luis Obispo apartment yesterday after the San Luis Obispo Gang Task Force tried to arrest him. The man, identified as Grover Beach resident Austin Ross, was wanted for possessing a firearm and a stolen vehicle. The standoff began at around 2 p.m., when Ross came outside briefly and then went back inside his girlfriend’s apartment on Stenner Street and refused to come out.

Ross has a criminal history and record of carrying a firearm, so a lockdown was ordered around the area and the SWAT team was brought in. Cal Poly students received a PolyAlert e-mail to avoid Stenner Street since it was close to campus. After an hour and a half, the standoff ended with Ross coming out of the apartment wearing a Halloween-styled mask with his hands in the air and surrendered to the authorities. He is currently in SLO County Jail facing charges of possession of a firearm, stolen vehicle and evading arrest.
