On October 23rd 2013, at about 7 p.m., Atascadero Fire Department and officers from the Atascadero Police Department were dispatched to the 6200 block of Morro Road for an injury traffic collision. When officers arrived on scene it was discovered that a 46 year old male resident of Atascadero attempted to cross Morro Road outside of a crosswalk. The pedestrian was hit by a vehicle traveling E/B on Morro Road. The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 72 year old male resident of Atascadero. The driver of the vehicle was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision. It is unknown at this time if the pedestrian was under the influence. The 6200 block of Morro Road was closed for approximately 2 hours while officers investigated the collision.
