Meth was the cause of a fatal crash of a local couple. On Tuesday April 2, 2013 at about 9:17 p.m. Grover Beach Police Officers and Five Cities Fire personnel were dispatched to an injury traffic collision in the 900 block of El Camino Real.
Initial reports from reporting persons indicated a single vehicle vs. tree collision occurred. Upon the emergency responders arrival they found a 1994 Ford pick-up truck had struck a large tree and was now resting on its driver’s side with two occupants still inside. They were 49-year-old Raymond Cano and his 46-year-old wife Kimberly of Arroyo Grande. The emergency responders were able to check the Cano’s conditions and determined both were deceased.
The result of the traffic collision investigation determined the primary collision factor was that Cano was driving under the influence of methamphetamine. Other contributing factors to the collision were determined to be improper turning movements created when the vehicle veered off the roadway and an unsafe speed for the roadway conditions.
