An unidentified white male adult smashed a window and stole a purse and black Gucci briefcase in a parked car in the Grover Beach 7 Eleven parking lot on Grand Avenue. The female victim was inside the store when the incident occurred. The suspect vehicle is a four door silver sedan with an unknown plate. There was a similar incident in the Pismo Beach pier parking lot. The suspect had fresh bloody knuckles, which police suspect may be from the Pismo Beach robbery. A Cuyama transient is in custody after allegedly starting a fire in the backyard of a residence and assaulting one of the homeowners. Sixty-two-year-old Stephen Howland was arrested last Tuesday and charged with numerous felonies, including arson and assault with deadly weapon. Howland was permitted by a homeowner on Morales Street to stay in the backyard shop. At approximately 11:20 p.m., one of the homeowners found Howland breaking off wood from a fence to fuel a fire he had started in the backyard. The results from an investigation involving a possible animal neglect incident were released last Friday. Last February, police began investigating the deaths of 25 sheep at Heritage Ranch. The investigation concluded that there is no evidence that negligence occurred. They came to this conclusion based on the fact that the sheep owner had a good reputation and there was no evidence of any mistreatment towards the sheep. Independent experts determined that the sheep likely died from excessive rain and high winds. Yesterday, Los Angeles resident Miles Hill sued San Luis Obispo-based charter bus company Silverado Stages and FedEx for negligence after surviving a deadly bus crash last month. KVEC Morning News reached out to Silverado Stages for comment. Silverado directed us to regional claims manager Jim Saunders at Lancer Insurance.

A memorial service for former San Luis Obispo County Judge Christopher Money will be held today at noon in San Luis Obispo. The service starts at the mortuary in Nipomo Street, followed by a short military graveside service at Los Osos Cemetary, and a reception at Elks Lodge. Judge Money died at 79 years of age after a yearlong battle with cancer. A well-known prosecutor and judge who headed the county’s first drug court, Money worked closely with the women's shelter and the sexual assault response team. Two Pismo Beach stores sold tobacco to a teenager during a sting operation on Tuesday. Police recruited a local teenager to try to purchase tobacco at 17 Pismo Beach stores. The teen bought tobacco at De Palo and Sons on Shell Beach Road and Pismo Food Store on Price Street. The police conducted the sting operation as part of an effort to reduce the number of tobacco sales to minors, saying that most smokers started smoking under the age of 18. Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County announced yesterday it has agreed with Condor Enterprises LLC. to buy 9.7 acres of land on Prado Road to build a Homeless Services Center. The deal is part of a joint agreement between CAPSLO and the Regional Transit Authority to use 6.5 acres of the land for a transit maintenance facility. The new homeless center will replace the Prado Day Center and the Maxine Lewis Memorial Night Shelter, and will start being built in late 2015.Read More »
Silverado Stages, a San Luis Obispo-based charter bus company, and FedEx are being sued by Miles Hill, a survivor of the crash caused by a FedEx truck hitting a tour bus full of students last month. Hill is suing for negligence, claiming that the bus didn’t have a proper escape method and the FedEx driver negligently crossed the middle of the road. A third candidate has entered the SLO County District Attorney race as a write-in. Defense attorney Paul Phillips entered the race because he feels that both candidates are just business-as-usual and that being the one candidate outside the DA’s office gives him a fresh perspective. Two fires happened on the Central Coast yesterday. Firefighters spent the night containing an eight-acre fire at Blue Heron Drive and Ana Bay Road in Avila Beach. People were evacuated. The fire was caused by a tree blown down by high winds into a PG&E power line above the Avila Beach Golf Resort. The second fire was a Santa Maria house fire that killed one of two dogs inside at around 12:45 p.m. at the corner of Alvin and Curryer. The fire was out less than an hour later and contained to the first floor. Crews remained on scene Wednesday afternoon to clean up and investigate.
