High Speed Pursuit Stopped in SLO County

Small Grass Fire in Gaviota


A three-acre grass fire broke out along Highway 101 near Mariposa Reina in Gaviota around 6:45 yesterday morning.  Due to the fire’s close proximity to a fire station, crews were able to quickly contain the blaze within 20 minutes.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Cal Poly Students Protest Tuition Hikes


A gathering of Cal Poly students held a protest yesterday against tuition hikes. The dozens of protesters wore all black clothing, waved signs chanting: “the death of the CSU.”  They say the California State University Board of Trustees may end a four-year hold on tuition increases due to inflation. The protestors are demanding a moratorium on tuition raises.
