SLO resident Derek Johnson hit the car in front of him, and the car propelled forward and hit another car stopped at a red light. A large fight occurred at a wedding reception at Moose Lodge last Saturday. The fight broke out in the parking lot, requiring officers from other police departments to break up the fight. The suspect, Oceano transient Daniel Berumen, was a guest at the reception and assaulted two people during the fight.
Both victims had severe injuries to the head and hand likely caused by a knife. The victims were hospitalized, but their injuries were not life-threatening. Berumen is currently in SLO County Jail and is being charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and battery.Read More »
A suspected DUI driver was hospitalized with major injuries at 9 Sunday night after a traffic collision on State Route 41. A 71-year-old from Cayucos was driving on State Route 41, south of Bear Ridge around 9:00 p.m. Sunday. Police say Atascadero resident Roberta Silva was driving north on Highway 41 and Silva over the double yellow lines right into the path of the other car. Silva was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and authorities say she will face DUI charges. The driver of the other car and his passenger both suffered minor injuries. Two other accidents happened as a result of the first accident, including one car diving off the roadway, and a four-car rear-ending accident.Read More »
A Santa Maria man was stabbed early Saturday morning. Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance on W. Lee Drive in Santa Maria and detained several people who were driving away from the area. The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital in a private vehicle, and his injuries were not life threatening. The stabbing is still under investigation.Read More »
A Paso Robles woman was killed in a single car accident Friday. Investigators say the driver was driving on Spring Street a little after 1 a.m. when she hit a parked vehicle and then hit a curb, causing the car rolled onto the driver’s side. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and will not be identified until next-of-kin have been notified. It is unclear if alcohol or drugs were involved.
Cal Poly students have given a family in need the house of their dreams. Through a program called Polyhouse, 26 Project Management graduate students give an extreme home makeover. They remodeled a family's home in Grover Beach and unveiled it on Sunday. The resident has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, so the home was remodeled to fit his needs. The remodeled home features a handicap accessible bathroom, a new kitchen, and a lift to help the man living there get out of bed and into his wheelchair. The students held fundraisers to pay for the remodeling and received donations from local businesses. The California Highway Patrol chased after a stolen vehicle yesterday. Police followed the car on Highway 47 it until they were able to stop it on Paseo Ladera Lane in San Luis Obispo County. The driver was identified as 41-year-old Angel Herrera III, who was a wanted parolee with a handgun and body armor.Read More »
A motorcyclist is in the Intensive Care Unit after being hit by an SUV yesterday morning at 9:45. A 26-year-old female rider was riding her motorcycle at the intersection of Sacramento and Capitolio when the 47-year-old Arroyo Grande driver of an SUV didn’t yield the right of way to her and resulted in an accident. The motorcycle rider was transported to Sierra Vista hospital and is in stable condition but the extent of her injuries is unknown at this time. A car crashed into Nucci's Pizza Restaurant in San Luis Obispo yesterday at 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot in front of the restaurant. The driver was trying to park when her foot got caught between the pedals, causing her to press on the gas. Her car jumped the cement parking barrier, and crashed into the front window of the restaurant. An unidentified Los Osos woman inside the restaurant was knocked to the ground and suffered minor injuries from the window's shattered glass. The driver was not injured, and police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
A Goleta woman faces a possible child endangerment charge after leaving her nine-month-old son unattended in a hot car. A passerby at Magnolia Shopping Center saw the baby alone in the car buckled in its car seat and called 911. Even though the back windows were slightly rolled down, the temperature was about 95 degrees. The baby was taken out of the car safely and in good condition. The baby was released back to the mother with a referral to Child Welfare Services. The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents to never leave a child in the car unattended on a hot day, as it causes the child to rapidly overheat and can have deadly results.Read More »
