The Santa Maria-Bonita School District names a new superintendent. The school board announcing at their meeting Wednesday that Luke Ontiveros will take over for Phil Alvarado, who retired last year after nearly four decades with the district. Day of Hope Fundraiser Was a Success

The 3rd annual “Day of Hope” fundraiser a success in Santa Maria. More than 500 volunteers lined the streets of Santa Maria, Orcutt and Nipomo. They sold newspapers for $1 each to raise money for the Mission Hope Cancer Center in Santa Maria. San Luis Obispo County agrees to allocate $2.5 million for affordable housing and homeless programs.  In a lengthy hearing yesterday before the Board of Supervisors, homeless advocates and workers testify that the lack of affordable housing units is a significant issue.
